Does My Divorce Attorney Need To Be Mean?

No, of course not.  This is the logical answer to the question.  None of us want to work with a mean, nasty or disrespectful person.  These are not endearing traits. 9.11.24 Mindful Divorce My Divorce Attorney

In fact, many of us intentionally keep this type of person away from us and away from our families.

Should You Choose to Work with a Mean/Nasty Divorce Attorney?

No.  The attorney that you choose to work with in your divorce will help you to understand the law, considering all of the unique facts of your marriage, and then they will help you achieve the unique goals that you have set for your divorce.

I have heard some say, I don’t want to work with a mean/nasty attorney but I “need” this person to assure that I will receive the benefit of his or her intimidation and ruthlessness.  While they don’t use those words, that is the gist of their statement.  This necessary evil will ultimately result in my spouse relenting.  I will “win” the divorce.

This logic makes very little sense when you write it down and think it through.

My first inclination is to apply common sense and respond to this argument with the fact that smart and experienced people are the individuals that I “need” when I want to solve a problem that is outside of my expertise.

These smart and experienced people are very rarely mean, nasty or intimidating.  Instead, they are confident, kind and happy to help.  They don’t have to resort to intimidation or yelling or disrespect.  They have done the work to become very good at their job.  They understand my problem and they know how to solve it.

These are the people that I choose to work with.

If you, or a friend of yours, needs to speak with a divorce attorney, I recommend that you go with the smart, kind and experienced one.

Instead of fighting in court, we provide you with the legal expertise and resources that you need to develop your own private, and durable resolutions to your divorce.
