Children should have rights in divorce. Our office acknowledges and embraces this responsibility to the entire family.
Here is our Children’s Bill of Rights In Divorce:
- The Right Not To Be Ignored – Divorce is a life-changing event for every member of the family. Children deserve to be acknowledged and to be heard. A child should have the opportunity to speak with a child specialist that will help them understand and work through the changes in family relationships that occurs during and after the divorce process.
- The Right To Be Protected – Children should never be asked to choose one parent over the other. Children are not adults. They should not be burdened with adult problems.
- The Right To Have Feelings – Children, whether they are age 4 or 14, have complicated and big feelings. Children should have the opportunity to speak with their parents and to a child specialist that will help them express these feelings. Children also have the right to know that their parents hear them. A child specialist will help assure that this happens.
- The Right To Be Informed -Children have the right to know in advance about major changes in their life. This includes how we are going to handle the divorce process, hopefully in a peaceful and private manner, and how we are going to create a Parenting Plan going forward that will support them and the family.
- The Right to Be a Kid – They are strong. They are resilient. They are also kids.
We provide a structured out of court collaborative divorce process that is peaceful, private and respectful. We help parents put their children first in divorce.
If you, or a friend of yours, has questions about out of court divorce options, that include divorce mediation, or collaborative divorce in Palm Beach County, we are here to help.
